A quick explanation for those of you who are not totally familiar with the placement process (apologies to those of you who know this bit..!!).
At the half way point in our placement we have 2 main events. The tutor visit (mine was last week if you remember) then also we have the half way report. This is scarily where we discover what our placement supervisor really thinks about us and have to give us feedback on our progress and provisional grades on 5 areas of our performance, these being; Communication and professional relationships, self management and organisation, professional development, professional conduct and The Occupational Therapy process practice placement 4.
I was both dreading and looking forward to the report but mainly the former, largely as feedback has been a little difficult to come by at times, therefore I wasn’t totally sure if I was going in the right direction or not (although felt I was I wasn’t sure if my supervisor agreed..!). However on the plus side this was an opportunity to really find out what was happening and hoped for some solid feedback.
Of course the timing of this event was let’s just say… flexible..!! And all of a sudden it was ok lets do your papers now… whereas I thought I was going to be running a group.!!!
I am pleased to report that I am heading in the right direction and the things I had written (as I also have to comment on what I think my progress has been on the same 5 areas) agreed with the comments Maria made and overall she is pleased with my progress so far.
For the remainder of the placement in addition to everything else I have been doing, I am to start attending the meetings (which are all in Spanish!!) as she now feels I will be able to contribute (eeekkkk!!) and this is where decisions are made with regard to client care (usually I am assisting in the dining room with the residents breakfast at this time so it will be nice to escape the smells of toast as often at this time it makes me hungry particularly in the knowledge it is another 5 hours before my lunchtime!!). Additionally I will be working more autonomously (although at times I have felt that I am anyway!) I am quite fine about this and happy to progress in these areas. After all for me I only have another 2.5 weeks to improve in these areas as that is when I get my final report due to Maria heading off on her holidays straight after Easter.
