Today, I have been set a challenge by one of the residents here. She and I both attend the Spanish/English classes here on Tuesday and Thursday evenings both keen to learn each others language and look to one another for assistance with pronunciation in the relevant language…!!
Anyway it turns out that next Monday we have a singer coming in for entertainment in the evening. This resident has decided and announced to staff that she wants to introduce the singer in English and me to introduce in Spanish…!! So, today we have been practicing, first I had to assist with the translation from Spanish to English. Then, this is what I need to say…
1. Es para mi un placer darles la bienvendia, un año màs, a este gran espectàculo ofrecido por nuest gran amiga Sarah Collins. (Roughly translated…..Welcome another year to a grand spectacular with our lovely friend Sarah Collins)
Nos recibe con la canciòn, conocida por todos, “Ave Maria”. (We begin with a song for everyone….. Ave Maria)
2. A continuacion, Sarah Collins nos susurràra: “Suave Suave”. (Song is Softly Softly)
3. Whora nos va a deleitar con una canciòn tradicional irlandesa, “Cuando sonrien los ojos irlandeses”. (Song – When Irish Eyes are Smiling)
4. Dejemos que Sarah Collins nos endulce el corazion: “Dejame llamarte Amor Mio”.
5. “Buena suerte, Buena salud, que dios te bendiga”. Con nuestros mejores deseos. (Good luck good health God bless you)
6. Caballeros recuerdent que “Los diamantes son los mejores amigos de las chicas”. (Diamonds are a girls best friend)
7. “Todo el mundo quiere un amante” (Everybody needs a friend)
8. “The Kufstein Liid” es una cancionn compuesta por Ganser para hablar de la cuidad austriaca del mismo nombre, alla en el Tirol. (The Kufstein Lied)
9. Guantanamera es una conocida ancion popular cubana. Lo que quiza no sepan es significa la “mujer de Guantanamo”. (Guantanamo)
10. Y para terminar, el broche de oro. En 1932 se compuse esta cancion para elogiar la hermosa cuidad andaluza “Granada”. (Granada)

In between now and Monday I will be practicing hard… Then I think after that lot I will need a stiff drink….. Maybe Monday is the night to try out the cocktail bar…. Or I will be too tired from concentrating and need to collapse in a heap!! Will keep you posted as to how it goes…
