Placement progress
A quick explanation about placements for those that don’t know…. Whilst on placement we have a list of objectives we strive to achieve throughout the period. I am learning a lot on this placement and it is really making me think about physical disability and its impact on function (which is good). Today in supervision (a weekly meeting with your supervisor) I received some feedback (this has been hard to come by so far) so I know now that I am on the right track all in all which makes me much happier. I keep coming up with ideas and am working very hard. On top of the daily work we (as students) often have subjects to research in our ‘spare’ time for me this has meant pathologies of conditions found here at Sanyres, which are varied and many of them..!! Also, we are often tasked with coming up with activity ideas for groups or individual clients. Groups for me include artistic workshop (we offer activities such as weaving, sewing, mosaic, often making things that can be used around the place), psychomotor group (chair based class using, memory activities, sequencing and very low level physical movement), stretching, healthy back, cognitive group, memory class (I do the one in English) and next week sees me begin a relaxation class in English, which I have planned and organised with clients…..!! So as you can see it is busy busy busy. Additionally there is never a dull moment here as many of the clients make you laugh (not always intentionally either!!). This coming week I need to plan the psychomotor group (mixed Spanish and English) and conduct the first relaxation session. I have also identified 3 clients to focus on as a small caseload while I am here and need to plan objectives and interventions for the remainder of my placement…. So that should keep me busy..!!
