Approximately a 20 minute drive into the mountains took us to Mijas which is or should I say was a typical Spanish town. Now more or less it is there for tourists with many shops and things to appeal to tourists of all nations. Having said this it is a lovely place with some stunning views. You can wander through the narrow streets and discover the many nooks and crannies of the small town. Jasbir commented that it was like something out of a fairy tale or that the views were at least…!
There is a shrine in Mijas which has been preserved and I think is still in some use. It sits at the edge of the town with many views around it and is a brick built structure with a bell and inside is relatively plain with an alter and some items which are used during Semana Santa (Easter) on display.
Mijas like many towns in Spain has its own bull ring and still has bull fighting regularly something which several of the Spanish people I have met of my generation do not agree with. However in most places throughout Spain it is a tradition/sport that continues on a regular basis.
After a good wander around in Mijas we headed back to Victoria’s where she proudly showed us her studio flat and kindly supplies us with coffee and cake before we headed off on the buses once more - this time bound for Benalmadena for the night to plan our adventures for Sunday…!!
