Victoria the psychologist from work has kindly offered to show us around Fuengirola and Mijas. So Saturday morning two buses later (of course for me as usual I have to go via Marbella to get anywhere pretty much!) and an hour and half of travelling I arrive in Fuengirola to meet both Jasbir and Victoria there. Victoria kindly shows us the main sites of the town as we walk through the streets and the plazas which are full of people as it is a reasonably sunny day.
We walk along the coast and are able to see the fishermen who cook the small fish (not sure which ones but bit like sardines) over a wooden fire outdoors. Sadly we could see the fire but no sardines..! We stopped for a coffee along the seafront which has many English bars and cafes… We then head back towards her flat which is situated in Mijas costa. Basically Mijas along with many other towns here have several different parts to them the section by the coast being costa then a more town/village/urban like section which is the main town. There is road through Fuengirola that at one end is Fuengirola and the other is Mijas Costa…. Once back at her flat, we pick up her car to go for a ride…
Once in the car Victoria drives us along the coastal road to see the views and we head to a lighthouse.. However once there and the car parked, we walk to get to the lighthouse and reach a dead end….!!
From here is is back in the car and heading towards the castle (Castillo), again we get out and have a good look around walking up to the castle. In the grounds here they have discovered some ancient archaeological sites of early settlement houses in the area. These areas have been left exposed however now you are unable to see the sites clearly as much dirt and rubble has covered them over.
Having now worked up an appetite we head for lunch and have ‘Montaditos’ which are like small rolls with different fillings – there were about 100 different fillings to choose from…and I translate for Jasbir the fillings which don’t involve eating meat….!!
After feeding our faces with Montaditos we jumped back in the car and headed for Mijas….
