New Words this week: Fin de Semana (weekend) Cumpleañeos (birthday) codo (elbow) muñeca (wrist) pantalones (trousers) llave (key) pinzar (to pinch) rollo (to roll) tirar (to pull)
The weather…. Yes, sorry to harp on about it but the weather had a quick break on Wednesday when I managed to enjoy a coffee out in the port people watching and seeing the Ferraris, Bentleys and Porches pass by! However, other than that it has rained every day and is grey here. Yes, I know they need the rain in Spain but it is not true that it mainly falls on the plain at the moment it mainly falls on the Costa Del Sol!! I have been told from the 1st March it will be sunny… We will see…!!!!
Good things this week;
Being told by a Spanish resident that my Spanish was getting better...!
Being able to leave work early on Wednesday with the visiting tutor from Brunel, we then went for a coffee in the port to enjoy a relatively rare moment of sunshine and some people and car watching/spotting, which was all very pleasant.
I am still thankful that no matter what the weather is like I am very lucky to be here, as I enjoy my regular walks along the beach after work in the evenings (unless it is pouring with rain then I draw the line!). As many of you know I do miss the sea when am not close to it so the fact I can see it every day and hear it when I walk to an from my apartment is a huge bonus to me…!!
Frustrating times…
Sitting through a residents drama rehearsal of Don Quixote – ALL IN SPANISH!!! It was hard to follow and after the hours rehearsal I was shattered from trying to concentrate on a foreign language all that time….. I probably only understood about 2 minutes of it all…!!
Realising I will be marked on my placement after only 6.5 weeks due to my supervisor going on holiday, this worries me as I am supposed to be marked on 8 weeks rather than 6.5, hence could affect my grade quite substantially (something I agonise over quite regularly), still we will see how far off I am this coming week as I get my half way report…eeekkkkk!!
Missing a roast dinner… This was exaggerated when a friend emailed me to say they were cooking roast beef for dinner…!! Although I don’t think I am experiencing homesickness, I at times long for normal conversation without talk of Uni, placement or without speaking in broken English or pigeon Spanish!!
